JUDAICA: A GERMAN SILVER 'PIDYON HA-BEN ' SERVING PLATE OR TRAY Augsburg, early 19th Century, of oval form, with repoussé decoration depicting the story of Jonah being swallowed by a fish, within a seascape with a winged figure, a leaf and berry border and crimped rim. 41.5cm wide, 17.5 troy ounces There are three splits in the rim. The broad rim of the plate is misshapen, as is the well, which results in the dish rocking when laid flat on a surface. The usual age-related surface wear throughout. Good definition to the chasing.
