A late-seventeenth-century provincial silver English dog-nose pattern spoon. Possibly East Anglian. With engraved initials 'J. D' to the back of the handle, and possible East Anglian hallmarks, length 19.5cm, weight 2.06ozt. The overall condition of the spoon appears good. There is some surface scratching and pitting, consistent with age and use. At the joint of the bowl and stem, there are some fine cracks; these do not appear to affect the integrity of the structure. There is no evidence to suggest repairs have taken place. The hallmark attribution is speculative and references Ian Pickford et al., 'Jackson's Silver & Gold Marks of England, Scotland & Ireland', Antique Collectors' Club, 2000, p. 337.
