What you will find
The largest group is bronze sculpture, often on a marble base: dancers, mythological figures, animals such as horses, herons, owls and panthers, and busts. Many are casts after well-known sculptors, including Rodin, Degas, Clodion, Auguste Moreau and Milo. There are also contemporary resin and metal works, marble pieces, carved wooden figures and crystal figurines from brands such as Swarovski. Most pieces here are between EUR 300 and EUR 1,100.
What "after" means
When a title reads "Auguste Rodin - after", the piece is a cast or reproduction based on that artist's design, not a work made in the artist's lifetime or under their supervision. These can be well made and decorative, but they are priced as reproductions. A signature cast into the bronze is part of the design and does not by itself mean the piece is an original.
How listings are described
- Material: bronze, bronze and marble, patinated or gilt bronze, resin, marble or crystal.
- Era: After 2000 for newer casts and contemporary work, 1900-2000 and 1400-1900 for older pieces.
- Size: height in centimetres, sometimes with weight for heavy bronzes.
Checking a bronze
Look at the photos for the quality of detail in faces and hands, the evenness of the patina, and whether the base is firmly attached. "Patinated" means the surface has been coloured chemically; "gilt" means a gold-coloured finish. Heavy pieces need a stable surface away from the edge of shelves.

What does "after" mean in a sculpture title?
"After" means the sculpture is based on a design by the named artist but was not made by them or in their lifetime. It is usually a later cast or reproduction, for example a modern bronze after Rodin or Degas. Such pieces are decorative and often well finished, but they are not original works and are priced accordingly.
How can I tell real bronze from spelter or resin?
Bronze is heavy for its size, cool to the touch and shows a warm golden-brown metal where the patina is worn. Spelter (zinc alloy) is lighter and greyish where scratched. Resin is much lighter and warms quickly in the hand. The material is stated in each listing; weight, where given, is also a useful guide.
How should I clean a bronze sculpture?
Dust it with a soft brush or dry cloth. If needed, apply a thin layer of microcrystalline or clear paste wax and buff gently. Do not use metal polish, water-based cleaners or abrasives, which remove the patina that gives bronze its colour. A marble base can be wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried straight away.
