No longer availableA LURISTAN 'LATTICE AND LION' RUG, SOUTH PERSIA, CIRCA 1870 “The pink-framed lattice design is of over-crowned ‘Qajar’ lions arranged in diagonal rows of similar colours on an indigo ground. The main border consists of a repeating double animal-head pattern in dark blue on a pink background. Two minor borders are formed of continuous unidirectional hooked triangles in various colours on an ivory ground. The ends are in a checkerboard pattern with no plain weave. The rug is woven in symmetrical knots, warps are in undyed brown/white wool and wefts in pink wool. The edges are overcast in pink wefts around a bundle of 6-8 warps. ” (Benjamin, op. cit., LITERATURE: 3rd ed., 2004, pp. 46-47 Rippon Boswell, Wiesbaden, 14th May 1994, illustrated, set 90. “Unusual Qajar design, with beautiful colours. ” (Benjamin, op. cit., p. 46)
