A LURI 'LARGE MEDALLION' SINGLE BAG, SOUTH PERSIA, CIRCA 1900 “Again a hooked medallion but this example has a central diamond on a pistachio green field. Smaller hooked and floral medallions occur in the 4 corners of the outer red field. The usual geometrical meander on ivory forms the main border but the red field merges with an inner border formed of reciprocal triangles. No closure region is present but there is a decorative band of two rows of ‘tuning fork’ forms in alternating green and white, woven in weft-float brocading. Sides are formed of single cords overcast in brown wool, worn in places. Knotting is symmetrical, warps in undyed light wool, wefts two shoots of natural light brown wool. Horizontal bands of weft-float brocading in zig-zag, lattice and tuning-fork designs completely cover the rear surface of the bag.” (Benjamin, op.cit., LITERATURE: 3rd ed., 2004, pp. 112-113 “Positive features of this bag are the very beautiful colours and the banded brocading of the back.” (Benjamin, op.cit., p.112)
