Brands include Louis Poulsen (such as the PH 4/3 by Poul Henningsen), Flos designs by Achille Castiglioni, Artemide, Kartell, Frandsen, Herstal, Halo Design, &Tradition, Fischer & Honsel, Jieldé and Murano houses such as Venini. Types range from floor lamps and table lamps to pendants, ceiling lights, wall sconces and chandeliers. Most pieces here are between EUR 300 and EUR 1,800.
How listings are described
- Brand, designer, model: in that order, so you can look up the original specifications.
- Material: metal, glass, brass, aluminium or polycarbonate.
- Quantity: a number in brackets means a set, for example Wall sconce (2).
- Retired or discontinued model: the design is no longer in the maker's current range.
Practical checks
Note the lamp's diameter and height, and for pendants, the cord or drop length. Check the bulb fitting (E14, E27, G9 and so on) and whether the lamp has an integrated LED. Ceiling and wall lights must be connected by a qualified electrician, and vintage lamps may need rewiring before use, particularly if the cable is fabric or rubber.
Condition
"As new - unused" pieces often come in original packaging. Used lamps may show light scratches on metal, small chips to glass edges or a yellowed shade; check the photos closely.
Frequently asked questions
Will a European designer lamp work in my home?
Lamps made for the European market run on 220-240 volts and usually have a Europlug or Schuko plug. In the UK you can fit a UK plug or use an adapter; in countries with 110-120 volt mains the lamp needs rewiring or a transformer. Bulb fittings such as E27 and E14 are standard across Europe and widely available.
What does "retired model" mean for a lamp?
It means the manufacturer no longer produces that design or colour. A retired model can be harder to find new, and spare parts such as shades or diffusers may become scarce over time. It does not affect how the lamp works. Checking the maker's archive or product sheet by model name gives you the original dimensions and bulb type.
What is the PH lamp by Louis Poulsen?
The PH lamps were designed by the Danish architect Poul Henningsen from the 1920s onwards for Louis Poulsen. Their layered shades direct light downwards and outwards while hiding the bulb, giving glare-free light. The PH 4/3 and PH 5 are among the best-known versions and are still produced today, alongside vintage examples.
