A pair of wooden armchairs of contrasting periods and styles. The first is a George III style mahogany open armchair or carver, featuring a serpentine top rail with carved ears over a pierced and interlaced vertical splat, having out-swept scroll arms on curved supports, the drop-in seat currently upholstered in a brown textured material, raised on cabriole front legs terminating in pad feet with raked square-section rear legs. The second is a 20th-century Windsor style smoker's bow or captain's armchair, constructed with a wide curved crest rail supported by vertical spindles and turned arm supports, having a solid shaped seat and raised on turned legs joined by an H-stretcher. The mahogany chair features traditional mortise and tenon joinery.
