A 19th Century English Windsor armchair, the double-bow back featuring a central splat with three vertical laths and decorative pierced fiddle shapes, each centring a turned roundel or wheel motif, flanked by two turned spindles to each side. The chair is constructed with a solid, shaped saddle seat in highly figured elm, into which the back, arm supports, and legs are traditionally socketed. The curved crinoline-style arm supports and turned spindles meet the scrolled terminals of the mid-rail bow. It is raised on four turned legs joined by an H-shaped stretcherThe construction utilizes a mix of hardwoods, likely beech or ash for the structural bows and spindles, contrasting with the wide, prominent grain of the elm seat.
